Heather is a Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor with formal therapy training gained from a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University, and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education from Indiana University of PA 

 

In her work she explores a client's challenging life experiences while assisting them to focus on their existing strengths in an insight oriented manner. Heather utilizes psychoeducation to inform her clients of the scientific theories that can help make sense of what they are experiencing. This work is done to assist in skill-building that directly correlates to the client’s difficult symptoms and builds resilience throughout the process.

Her goal is for the client to come away from therapy with a personal toolbox of skills to assist them in managing their life. At a New Direction Counseling, LLC various Cognitive Behavioral Therapy models are used to accomplish the client’s goals. Models may include but not limited to Cognitive Processing Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Reality/ Choice Theory, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Trauma Informed -CBT and Mindfulness. 

 

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is evidenced based . This approach aims to improve overall mental wellness. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and assists in the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems and future life challenges.

 

Heather works with individuals, couples and families treating anxiety, panic, depression, life adjustment, mood instability, relational issues, trauma and grief.
